About an hour drive north of Wheeling, WV, is small town Chester, WV, home of the Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort. Mixing luxury with a little taste of Good Ole West Virginia, they offer a lot of slot games, some table games, and one of the few horse tracks the state of West Virginia has to offer. In addition, hotel amenities feature an indoor pool, spa, gift shop, a fine jewelry store, fitness center, a sports bar, a piano bar, and a steakhouse. The race track also offers food service including fine dining complete with televisions showing the horse races at many of the tables. They also offer events such as poker tournaments and concerts, so check with their calendar if you are interested for timing purposes.
This resort is a great little get-away for those looking for more a quiet, relaxed casino environment as opposed to the hustle and bustle found in Las Vegas casinos. Heavy table gamers usually find their bigger winnings at bigger casinos like Pittsburgh, PA (for something close) and Las Vegas, but those who like the horse track seem pretty content when they win.
The Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort is a fabulous retreat for companies and small organizations wanting to make use of the convention center for training, workshops, events, and guest speakers. They offer a variety of choices for conference room size as well as group rates and bus information.
Minutes away from the resort is the Mountaineer’s Woodview Golf Course offering an 18-hole par 72 course relaxing in the foothills of God’s Country (West Virginia’s less common nickname but given because of the beautiful green lively landscape). Keep in mind the course is open in season.
Chester, WV is also home of the world’s largest tea pot, and authentic post cards can be purchased at the bait shop across the street from this amazing tea pot.
